The example below is based on an excerpt from a conversation which criticized the sole use of Total Quality Management (TQM) accomplished without a Just-in-Time (JIT) system for ordering of inventory.

Thesis: We are using TQM anyway. What is the point of having another system?

Conditional inference: … Therefore …

Conclusion: I think such a proposition is a waste of time and money.

The second person responds with a counterargument (antithesis). Again, the antithesis consists of a premise and a conditional inference. Both are immediately followed by a relevant conclusion(s).

Antithesis:  TQM hasn’t been working.

Conditional inference: … Hence …

Conclusion 1: We need JIT to supplement it.

Conclusion 2: We need to ensure that optimal levels of stock are maintained.
